Two hundred youths from across the Northern Cape will be gathered at the Warrenton Pleasure Resort in the Frances Baard District for the eighth annual Provincial Youth Camp. The seven day gathering will begin on Sunday, 01 December until Friday, 06 December 2019. It has been put together by the Provincial and National Departments of Sport, Arts and Culture together with other strategic partners. The 2019 event will be hosted under the theme: “One Heart One Africa;”
Following on the success of the previous Youth Camps the 2019 camp promises to be a more memorable experience for the 200 young participants, known as Trailblazers that will be gathering at the resort. Only participants who were doing grade eleven during the 2019 academic year are eligible and will attend the 2019 event. The group went through a stringent recruitment and selection process which was verified by the National Department of Sport and Recreation.
The Youth Camp motto – Learn, Lead and Serve – captures the essence of its focus, which is to nurture the spirit of social cohesion and nation building, and provide young South Africans with leadership and life skills and values that will help them develop into proud and patriotic leader citizens.
A number of alumni from last year’s camps will be attending once again, but this time they’ll be assuming the roles of Camp Stewards. A day during the seven-day-long camp is set aside for community service, where Trailblazers will be visiting impoverished communities in the vicinity of the camp venue to do community work. Here the teams will be doing minor repairs to identified Early Childhood Development Centers, ECDs around Warrenton.
In terms of security at the camp, Trailblazers are constantly under the watchful eye of camp management, and each camp has 24-hour security to provide maximum safety. Strict discipline is also maintained at all times.
