Northern Cape Provincial Government will commemorate the 2023 Provincial Youth Day at the AR Abass Stadium in Kimberley in the Frances Baard District. Forty youth owned enterprises will benefit from government financial assistance and equipment that will be handed out during the event. The commemoration will be led by Premier Dr. Zamani Saul together with the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Ms. Desery Fienies as well as the MEC for Youth, Disabilities, Communications and E-Governance Ms. Venus Blennies. They will be accompanied by other Members of Executive Council and the local leadership of Sol Plaatje and Frances Baard Municipalities.
2023 marks the 47th anniversary of the June 16 Soweto and other related uprisings. The Soweto uprising ended tragically with hundreds of young people brutally killed. This tragedy became a rallying point that inspired a nation and a people to rise up against the brutal apartheid system.
Following the advent of democracy in 1994, the new democratic government declared 16 June as National Youth Day and June as Youth Month. This year National Youth Day and Youth Month are being celebrated under the theme: “Accelerating youth economic emancipation for a sustainable future”.
The 2023 Youth Month is focusing on a spectrum of opportunities for young people in the private sector, public sector and civil society across the spectrum. This includes employment, entrepreneurship, skills development and youth service opportunities and a range of support to assist young people to find traction in the labour market.
Northern Cape Youths are encouraged to take advantage of all embracing Government Services Fair programme where various government departments and other stakeholders will showcase empowerment opportunities to the youths. A number youth owned enterprises will also be given a platform to showcase their products.
Premier Zamani Saul will on Thursday, 15 June unveil Media Attaché's, a job creation programme whereby 30 young people will be deployed to strengthen various government communication units.
