Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will commemorate the 2022 Nelson Mandela International Day by cleaning the Mayibuye Multi-Purpose Centre in Mankurwane in Galeshewe. The iconic facility is found in the heart of Galeshewe township and requires a massive revamp in enhancing its outlook.
It needs to be prioritized given the fact that it is the most active and visited centre in the township. The centre provides access to event hosting through its conference facilities, accommodates music and dance academies and a state of the art sport facility as well as offices. The department has requested and urged its officials to attend the Mandela Day event and volunteer at least sixty-seven minutes of their time towards the project.
This year’s Nelson Mandela International Day will be celebrated under the global theme: “Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are.” It is a clarion call for people to support and participate in the campaign by bringing about sustainable interventions with lasting impact.
In particular, this year’s focus is to encourage people to promote community and backyard gardens, supporting fruit and indigenous tree planting, and creating awareness of the intersections between food security and climate change.
