Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will observe the National Move for Health Day at AR Abass Stadium in Kimberley in the Frances Baard District on Tuesday, 10 May 2022. The nation-wide campaign forms part of the development of global and national strategies on diet, physical activity and health. It is also aimed at achieving the following important health and wellness objectives:
- Increase population-wide participation in physical activity.
- Increase participation in physical activity through sport organizations, events and other socio-cultural forums.
- Promote healthy behavior and lifestyles and address health related issues through sports and physical activity such as non tobacco use, healthy diet, reduction of violence, stress and social isolation.
The campaign which will be marked under the theme "White t-shirt" will be observed in all nine provinces through partnerships with government spheres and the private sector. The day's activities will include a three kilometer Fun Walk from the AR Abass Stadium. The short walk will start with Covid-19 screening at the stadium at around 07:30 in the morning. It will then follow Stokross Street before joining St Paul's and turning at the park in St Paul's back to the stadium. It will culminate with sporting and wellness festivities including aerobics, tug of war, health screening and Covid-19 vaccination amongst others.
Local community members and public servants are encouraged to participate in the programme.
