The Northern Cape Provincial Government celebrated a successful Women's Day programme on Sunday, 12 August 2018. The programme was held at Douglas Stadium in the Pixley ka Seme District. It was commemorated under the theme "100 Years of Albertina Sisulu: Woman of Fortitude, Women United in Moving South Africa Forward". Premier Ms. Sylvia Lucas delivered a keynote during the event. She was accompanied by the Northern Cape MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Ms. Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba, MEC for Public Works Mr. Mxolisi Sokatsha, MEC for Economic Development and Tourism Mr.Mac Jack and other dignitaries.
The event was attended by over one-thousand women who had travelled from various parts of the province to commemorate the day. This year’s commemoration had taken place on a special significance as it is the year of the “triple centenary”. South Africa celebrates the birth of struggle icon Mama Albertina Sisulu and Tata Nelson Mandela as well as the formation of the Bantu Women’s League.
Five girl children from local schools were afforded a platform to voice their challenges in to the Premier and other politicians during the event. Premier Lucas also paid a special tribute to Northern Cape women who have left an indelible mark in their communities.
