The Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will be celebrating 2019 Africa Month by promoting and supporting the preservation and revival of indigenous languages. The department will create discussion platforms for South Africans, in particular local communities, to engage in conversations on Africa’s past, present and future, to foster solidarity and to build unity. The 2019 Africa Day will be commemorated under the theme "Celebrating 25 Years of Democracy: Building a Better Africa and a Better World.”
Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Frances Baard District, will facilitate a dialogue involving foreign nationals living in the Jankempdorp and Ganspan areas, members of the Platfontein based !Xun and Khwe community, as well as the local black and white communities. The dialogue will be centred around the support, revival and preservation of indigenous languages. The event will be preceded by indigenous games involving all guests which will be held at Hartsvaal Primary School in Ganspan.
The department's Pixley ka Seme District office will celebrate the day on Wednesday, 29 May at the Youth Precinct in De Aar. The departmental officials will be accompanied by African brothers and sisters from the continent to showcase their Africanness through attire, music, dance and African cuisine.
The John Taolo Gaetsewe District office in Kuruman will engage in cultural programmes, dialogue and sporting activities. The district is set to celebrate the day over a two day period with the main event scheduled to take place on Thursday, 23 May at Workshop Ko Kazi in Mothibistad.
Officials in the ZF Mgcawu District will engage in cultural dialogue involving various cultural groups. The district will also showcase food cuisine and cultural exhibition at the Oranje Kalahari Museum.
DSAC officials at head office will also converge at the AR Abass Stadium where they will showcase their patriotism by dressing up in their African attire. Officials will be given time to prepare unique African cuisine, indulge in a song and dance to demonstrate their love for the continent.
This year’s celebrations coincides with the commemoration of 25 Years of Democracy and 23 years of existence of the Constitution, and will be used to reflect on the achievements of the past 25 years.
