10th ANNUAL NORTHERN CAPE WRITERS FESTIVAL

The Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will be hosting the 10th Annual NC Writer's Festival. The three day event will be officially opened by MEC Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba on Wednesday, 17 October 2018 at the Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley in the Frances Baard District. It will be celebrated under the theme "Our Roots in Words - Stories that speak to the South African soul".
 
The 2018 festival is promising to become bigger and better. It will be held on the backdrop of a double centenary celebrations, that of our former President  and father of our democracy Dr. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and Albertina Sisulu.
 
The three day event will see authors including Dr. Lesego Malepe, Jabulani Sibanda, Lorato Trok, Diana Ferrus, Sihle Khumalo, Anthol Williams, Ipeleng Tlhankana, Gontse wa Chaane, Flow Wellington and Sabata Mokae conducting outreach programmes at various correctional facilities in and around the Frances Baard District. The outreach will also be extended to GAASCA Old Age Centre as well as BAF Mzansi Centre in Brkley West.
The programme will also feature the launch of Albertina Sisulu Poetry Anthology and Performance on the second day of the festival.
 
The three day reading and writing extravaganza will see a launch of several books including Kabelo Duncan Kgatea's "Dikhutsana tsa Marikana". Dr. Lesego Malepe will also launch her latest book called  “Reclaiming Home” and will be in conversation with Sihle Khumalo. Phehello Mofokeng will launch his new book  “Sankomota: An Ode in one Album while Mpho A. Leepa’s “Born for Greatness: A Biography of Frank Leepa” will also be unveiled.
 
Published and unpublished authors will be afforded the opportunity to interact and sell  their manuscripts to publishing houses during the festival. Children from various Early Childhood Development Centres will be entertained through storytelling and puppet shows while the festival will also roll out publishing and editing workshop.
