Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will roll out various programmes on Friday, 25 May 2018. The programmes will be rolled out as part of 2018 Africa Day celebrations which will be celebrated under the theme "The year of Nelson Mandela: Building a Better Africa and a Better World".
The Frances Baard District will hold a community dialogue at De Beershoogte in Barkly West. Africa Day programme in the ZF Mgcawu District will take a form of Oral History Dialogues to be held at the Kalahari Museum and David Kruiper Local Municipality. The programme in Namakwa District will be held at Steinkopf and Nababiep where patriots will get the opportunity to showcase their art and cultural products with an African theme. The district will also hold a fun run and mountain bike race on Saturday, 26 May 2018. Five African countries will also be showcased in Okiep next Friday, 01 June 2018.
The community conversations which will be held at Briepaal Community Hall in Douglas in the Pixley ka Seme District are set to focus on the role that former President Nelson Mandela played in Africa and the impact he had in the continent. The John Taolo Gaetsewe District event will be held on Thursday, 31 May at Ga-morona Village.
Department of Sport, Arts and Culture as the custodian of Commemorative Days will form part of the celebrations. DSAC officials will showcase their patriotism by dressing up in their African attire. Officials will be given time to prepare unique African cuisine, indulge in a song and dance to demonstrate their love for the continent.
Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on 25 May, 1963. It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent as well as around the world.
