The Premier, Dr. Zamani Saul will lead the Provincial Freedom Day commemorative event scheduled to take place in Prieska, located within the Pixley Ka Seme District.
Premier Saul, will be accompanied by the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Mangaliso Matika, Members of the Executive Council, and the leadership from the Pixley Ka Seme District Municipality and the Siyathemba Local Municipality.
This year marks the 32nd anniversary of South Africa’s democratic dispensation, celebrated under the theme: “Freedom and the Rule of Law – 30 Years of Democratic Citizenship.”
Freedom Day 2026 also aligns with several significant national milestones, including:
- The 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa
- 50 years since the June 16 Youth Uprising
- 70 years since the historic Women’s March of 1956
In the lead-up to the official commemoration, a series of sport and cultural activities will take place to promote social cohesion, nation-building, and unity among communities. These include the “Lace Up and Get Ready to Hike Towards Freedom” initiative, scheduled for 25 April 2026 at the historic Magersfontein Battlefield. The Province will also be hosting Freedom Day Celebrations in all other districts on the 25 and 27 April 2026
