The National Library of South Africa (NLSA) in partnership with the Northern Cape’s Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and the South African Library for the Blind will, on 21 and 22 April 2022 celebrate World Book and Copyright Day in Barkly West, Northern Cape.
Libraries play a vital role in satisfying the educational and informational needs of communities and thus promote reading for nation-building. One of the NLSA’s responsibilities is to shape a nation of readers by facilitating access to information, providing books to public libraries, school libraries and book clubs and through the hosting of reading competitions and campaigns.
Annually on 23 April, the world celebrates World Book and Copyright Day. It is a day which celebrates all things book related - writing, reading, publishing and copyright laws. It is also an occasion to encourage people to discover, or rediscover, the pleasure of reading. The NLSA, in conjunction with its partners has lined up a range of activities to pay tribute to authors and promote a culture of reading in observance of World Book and Copyright Day. Events include a door-to-door book donation campaign, motivational talks, book readings etc.
