The MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Ms. Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba has touched the lives of people in the ZF Mgcawu District. The MEC donated sporting equipment to various sporting clubs and schools at Kenhardt and Luiosvalle Weg during the Exco Outreach Prgramme in the area on Tuesday, 29 May and Thursday 31 May 2018. She was accompanied by Head of Department Ms. Ruth Palm and other members of Dsac senior management team.
On Tuesday, 29 May 2018 MEC Mbinqo-Gigaba handed out library toys to kids at Kokerboom Public Library in Kenhardt. She had spent her time to read a short story to the children inside the library before going out to interact with them on the jumping castle and on the sporting field.
The MEC continued to interact with local sporting federation at the Kai Gariep Local Municipal chambers before handing over sporting equipment. She donated sporting equipment to the local high school and later joined in on the community meeting.
On Thursday, 31 May 2018, MEC Mbinqo-Gigaba led her delegation to the Jacky Greeff Public Library in Loisvalle Weg outside Upington
Here the MEC engaged the young ones in short stories and proceeded to meet with the family of the late struggle icon, Jacky Greeff whom the library facility is named after. She handed out sporting equipment to the Loisvalle Weg Intermediate School before resolving community concerns during an afternoon meeting.
The Kenhardt based ZF Mgcawu Cricket Federation also benefited from cricket material donated by MEC Mbinqo-Gigaba. The team with 27 players also assists in developing kids from the local schools. Team Manager Vincent Lombard says in 2016 team had a player who was selected to participate in Grikwa A team. They however had to stop playing their league games due to shortage of equipment "Now we can get our games back and get head on with our league matches.
The team is consists of kids between ages of 15 and 37. We also assist under 15/17 with the equipment, this will go a long way towards reducing crime." said Lombard.
The principal of Soverby Primary School expressed his gratitude to HOD Palm on how the new equipment will aid the schools young teams and keep learners occupied on positive things. Several sporting club coaches in the district were pleased at receiving the new equipment. Computers were also donated to the Hendrick Goeiman Youth Centre at Loivalle Weg.
